Honeymoon Tour of Sri Lanka

DAY 01- AIRPORT- HABARANA

Arrival at Bandaranayaka International airport. On arrival, will be met by the Leoland Travels representatives and will be decorated with garlands of Temple tree flowers. Thereafter they will be introduced to the local tour guide who will be accompanied them around the Island.

Transfer to Habarana, (Approx 3 hrs)

Enjoy a scenic drive to Habarana, passing paddy field and villages of the calm and peaceful village of Habarana, with a historical and cultural value.

Habarana - is a small city in the Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka. The location has some mid-range and up hotels aimed at package tourists, and is a departure point for other nearby locations of greater interest.

Habarana is a popular tourist destination for safari lovers as it is the starting point for safaris in the nearby Habarana jungle and the Minneriya sanctuary, which is heavily populated by elephants. Elephant back riding is also an attraction in this small city. Habarana is situated nearby to the ancient rock fortress and castle/palace ruin of Sigiriya and is situated on the main road from Colombo to Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa. The population of the city is expected to be in the area of 5000-10,000.

The area has some of the best hotels in the country and the greenery and wild life has added value, making the location attractive for tourists.

DAY 02- HABARANA - SIGIRIYA - HABARANA

After Breakfast visit Sigiriya,

Sigiriya - is home to the 5th Century Fortress in the Sky which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its triple-moated defense the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of life sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original color. Afternoon proceed to Polonnaruwa for sightseeing (Approx 2 hrs)

DAY 03- HABARANA - DAMBULLA - MATALE - KANDY

After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Dambulla, as you will get to know about the famous Dambulla Rock Cave Temple complex.

Dambulla - Dambulla is famous for the five cave Temples on a rock. The first 03 caves are better, older and larger than the other two. Some caves dates to 1st C.B.C. All the 5 cave walls and ceilings are covered with Buddhist murals and there are more than 130 Buddha statues, statues of Gods and Kings are also found here.

After proceeding to Hotel, (Approx 2 hrs)

Spice Garden at Matale and see the luscious Cinnamons, Cardamoms, Pepper plants etc. You can also purchase your requirements of spices. (Approx 1 hrs visit)

After that leaving to Kandy,

DAY 04 - KANDY

After breakfast at the hotel, relax at the hotel or visit Hunas Falls or the surroundings of Kandy including a visit to Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Royal Botanical Gardens - 147 acres in extent: started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the Kings of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of tree and plants. Some and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world. Spice garden and Orchid House are popular with Tourists.

Afterwards leave to Hotel in Kandy,

DAY 05 - KANDY - NUWARE ELIYA

After breakfast Nuwara Eliya en-route visiting Tea Factory & Plantation.

(Approx 2 hrs)

Nuwara Eliya - The Little England of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but is really just like an England spring day although the temperature does drop at night.

All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions.

Hakgala Botanical Garden - is situated on the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road, 16 km from Nuwara Eliya. The garden has a cool temperate climate because of altitude is 5,400 feet above the sea level. The mean annual temperature ranges between 16C to 30C during course of a year. From December to February it has a cold climate, while the warm climate persists from April to August.

DAY 06 - NUWARA ELIYA- HORTON PLAINS - NUWARA ELIYA

After breakfast leave to Horton Plains.

Horton Plains National Park - is a protected area in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is covered by montane grassland and cloud forest. This plateau at an altitude of 2,1002,300 meters (6,9007,500 ft) is rich in biodiversity and many species found here are endemic to the region. This region was designated a national park in 1988. It is also a popular tourist destination and is situated 32 kilometers (20 mi) from Nuwara Eliya and 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) from Ohiya.

The Horton Plains are the headwaters of three major Sri Lankan rivers, the Mahaweli, Kelani, and Walawe. In Sinhala the plains are known as Maha Eliya Plains. Stone tools dating back to Balangoda culture have been found here. The plains' vegetation is grasslands interspersed with montane forest, and includes many endemic woody plants. Large herds of Sri Lankan Sambar Deer feature as typical mammals, and the park is also an Important Bird Area with many species not only endemic to Sri Lanka but restricted to the Horton Plains. Forest diebacks one of the major threats to the park and some studies suggest that it is caused by a natural phenomenon. The sheer precipice of World's End and Baker's Falls are among the tourist attractions of the park.

Day 07 - NUWARA ELIYA - YALA

After breakfast leave for Yala via Ella.. (Approx 06 6 hour)

Ella - 06 miles from Bandarawela on the Bandarawela - Wellawaya road is the Ella gap with a view of the Kataragama range of mountains at the distance. The Patna grasslands, Ravana Ella waterfalls (1080 ft. high) and Randeniwela monument could be seen on this route.

Afternoon Safari at Yala by jeep.

Afternoon Safari at Yala National Park by Jeep (Approx 03 hour)

Yala National Park - 185 miles from Colombo. Yala National Park is 378 sq. miles in extent. Yala was established in 1938 from, what originally was a Sportsmans shooting reserve.

This is the most famous and well developed National Park where wild animals and birds could be observed. The Wild animals include Elephants in herds of varying sizes, Leopards, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo, Crocodiles, Peacocks, Jackal, Sloth Bear and other animals.

The bird-life comprises of about 130 species including the resident and migrants. Painted storks, Paradise Flycatcher, Grey Herons, Serpent Eagle, Sea Eagle, Black-Necked Stork, Spoonbills, Pelicans add colour to the bird-life in the park.

Day 08 - YALA GALLE - WADDUWA

After breakfast leave for Wadduwa based on clients choose en route visiting Galle Dutch Fort (Approx 06 hrs to reach Galle)

Galle - 72 miles from Colombo. This is the most ancient and important harbor of the country, until the Colombo harbor was established. Galle is identified as the Tarshis of the Bible. This was captured by the Portuguese in 1587 A.D, Dutch in 1640 A.D, and British in 1796 A.D. Most of the existing buildings dates to Dutch Period. The Bastians are still using Dutch names such as Zwart, Akesloot, Aeloes etc. Famous for lace making, Ebony carving, Gem cutting & polishing, out on shooting chanced on Nuwara Eliya plains, and Sir Edward Barnes investigated on it.(Approx 01 1 hrs to visit)

Day 09 - WADDUWA

Breakfast & Spend your time at leisure, relax by the beach, visit the village of Bentota, you have the option to enjoy a boat ride through the mangrove of the Madu River.
